WANT JUDGES 'TO DO THE RIGHT THING'

ASSOCIATED PRESS

John Becknell enters the courtroom and finds his usual spot in the front row, just behind the prosecutor's table.

Becknell -- a devout Christian known to many as "Brother John" -- pulls out a pen and an inch-thick docket, mostly of drug and alcohol cases. For the next three hours, he takes diligent notes on the judge's actions, the attendance of police officers, repeat offenders making another appearance, and so on.

The Manchester Briefing: An Account of Community Transformation

On March 23-24 of 2007, the "Delegation of Hope" was sent to examine a case of community transformation located in the Appalachian Region of Clay County.  this phenomenon, not usually seen in western culture, is an extraordinary season where the full measure of the Kingdom of God pervades virtually every institution of human endeavor.  This transforming revival is not a total absence of sin, but rather a fresh trajectory attended by observable fruit, and measured by what the community once was.

Reports about the county seat, Manchester, indicated that its values and institutions were being overrun by the grace of God and being observed in the courtrooms, boardrooms, and classrooms of that society.  The Delegation, consisting of three witnesses:  Don Merritt, Reverend Eleazer Akuchie, and Ben Mutti, conducted interviews with the Mayor, Sheriff, local media, and several pastors and citizens from Clay County.  Many of the interviews disclosed the vice-like grip drug addiction had on their city and how the March of May 2, 2004, brought a pulse back to their community.  The contrast seen after this climatic event was so evident, that not only were political leaders acknowledging God and promoting justice and righteousness, but also businesses like the local Wal Mart were awarding its employees with plagues for the "best Christian witness," and its customers lining up at the checkout line to be prayed for.
