Christmas Is...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.  None of that Happy Holidays stuff for me, I’m celebrating the birth of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We spend most of the year basically celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus. Not that there is any anything wrong with it but Christmas is a celebration of life.

Christmas is a wonderful story of how the Holy Spirit overshadowed a young virgin and she conceived and gave birth to a Holy Child that would one day save the world, of how the Heavens literally opened up and the angels proclaimed his birth, of kings bringing him gifts and honoring him (o.k., the kings came a couple of years later but they always seem to be included all the Christmas plays).  Hollywood with all its imagination could not have conceived this story.

Christmas is a time of wonderful colors, lights, decorations, and Christmas trees.  Each one with a meaning and a memory for each of us.  And yes, the Christmas tree is often explained as “a Christianization of pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of evergreen boughs and an adaptation of pagan tree worship”.  But as a Christian, I assure you I am not worshipping the tree.  When I see a Christmas tree, I think of the birth of Jesus Christ.

Christmas is a time for family and friends to get together and do what families should do, love each other.

Christmas is a time of giving to others.  I’m not talking about the secular world’s version of giving but the Christian version.  Giving out of love and giving to people you don’t even know, who are in need.

Christmas is (this is the most important one) worshipping Jesus Christ and celebrating his birth.

Again, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all,

Blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee.
