Nothing Says Happy Mother's Day Like a Fist-Fight -- Five Arrested After Restaurant Brawl

“A raucous brawl ruined Mother's Day celebrations for several families at a west Toledo restaurant.  The fists started flying just after 3:00pm Sunday in a Golden Corral restaurant at the corner of Alexis and Lewis.  When it was all over, police had arrested five people, and sent an elderly woman to the hospital.

Golden Corral employees tell News 11 it all started when an elderly woman told the family at the table next to hers that their children were "acting like animals."  After that remark, the fists and feet started flying.”

Have you ever been in a situation like this one?  I have but it didn’t come to blows.  It does seem like children today have no discipline at all.

But whose responsibility is it to teach children discipline?  Is it the parents, schools, or society?

Biblically speaking, it is the parents’ responsibility.

The bible says to “train up a child up in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”.

Proverbs 22:6 (New American Standard Bible)

Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Deuteronomy 6 (New American Standard Bible)

Obey God and Prosper

4"Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!

5"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

6"These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.

7"You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.

8"You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.

9"You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

So, what do we do now that we have established it’s the parents’ responsibility to discipline their children?  We really can’t do anything about the way others choose to rear their children but we do have a responsibility to rear our own children “in the way he should go”.  It is sad that parents are either too lazy or too liberal to discipline their children.

If you are in a church or a restaurant and a child is basically “going wild” and you have had enough, practice self control.  There is nothing wrong with asking a parent to control their child but do it with meekness.  If you give a child’s parents “a piece of your mind”, they may give you something back.

Blessed art thou, and it shall be well with thee.
